🥚💐 Do you know the origin of Easter eggs? For the Egyptians, Persians and Romans, eggs were the embodiment of life and were given as gifts to celebrate spring. In the Middle Ages, it was forbidden to eat eggs during Lent, but the hens of the house did not stop laying eggs, so they were decorated for gifting. They were usually dyed red, the color of Christ's blood. During Holy Week, the biggest egg was given to the king. Very fashionable at the court since the Renaissance, ostrich eggs were transformed into real works of art and offered for Easter. But because they were so fragile, one started to use other materials such as glass, earthenware or porcelain. It was not until the 18th century that fresh eggs were emptied and filled with chocolate. The creation of the first iron molds, a century later, along with the mastery of cocoa paste revolutionized this tradition : the egg filled with chocolate became the chocolate egg! 🍫
