Porcelain cabinets

18 June, 2023 14:00

🌴 Welcome to the wonderful world of porcelain cabinets! At a time when the secret of kaolin had not spread yet beyond the borders of China, the great princes of Europe became fascinated by porcelain from the Far East, and began to collect it in a frenzy. In their palaces, they skilfully arranged their collections from floor to ceiling, with a mixture of extravagance and refinement. These precious objects from the other side of the world were indeed a marker of power and wealth, especially as the fashion was for exoticism and chinoiserie of all kinds. But where can one find these treasures? In the Palais de Santos in Lisbon, pay close attention to the ceiling of the porcelain room; linger in the boudoir of Maria Amalia de Saxe at the Palazzo de Capodimonte near Madrid, or in the Chinese bedroom at Claydon House in England. Finally, marvel at the porcelain cabinet at Charlottenburg Palace in Germany... With some 2,700 pieces, it is the largest in Europe! 🤍
