🔥 Limoges is famous for its porcelain, but did you know that it is also the capital of the arts of firing? The reason is a long and tradition of enamel craftsmanship, stained glass, porcelain of course and more recently technical ceramics. But let's go back to the origins! After the champlevé enamels developed in the Middle Ages, the art of painted enamel on copper boomed during the Renaissance. Obtained from metallic oxides, the colors are applied on a white background with a black undercoat. Traced with a needle, the drawing reveals by transparence while gold highlights emphasize the decorative details. At this time, great lines of artists appear such as the Limosins, the Penicauds or the Reymonds.
