🎁 Christmas is just around the corner... Here’s a look back at the history of gift wrapping. In Korea, the technique of pojagi dates back to the Three Kingdoms period, in the first century. It is said that women infused their dreams into these patchwork fabrics. The art of furoshiki developed in Japan as early as 1600, an elaborate knotting of fabric around precious possessions for them to be transported. For a long time, European kids’ presents were either unwrapped or wrapped in dull kraft paper. The English bourgeoisie of the Victorian era were the first to use decorative fabric, ribbons and lace. But the turning point came in 1917 in the United States. Two brothers, head of the Hallmark stationery store in Kansas City, ran out of fabric because the season had been so good. They decided to replace it with decorated « French paper », previously used for envelopes. It was a great success, and the first range of gift wrapping paper was born!
