✨ Gold has been the embodiment of wealth and luxury since the dawn of time. Like porcelain, it has been studied by alchemists in their search for the philosopher's stone. After the first applications of gold leaf, it was finally discovered in Europe during the Renaissance how to reduce gold to powder and so, in the 18th century, gold on porcelain finally appeared in France, thanks to the help of Brother Hippolyte. The range of colours was then extended, including pink, which was reserved for the king, as this precious colour could only be obtained from a precipitate of gold. Although Sèvres retained the royal privilege of gold on porcelain for a long time, Parisian porcelain makers such as Dagoty would later seize it with delight and abundance. Famous silversmiths such as Odiot also contributed to the shine of the table during grand ceremonial dinners. As for the combination of white porcelain and gold, we owe it to the mercantile merchants who created ever more refined pieces for the nobility.
