We all know Erasmus as a Renaissance humanist thinker, Dutch theologian, moralist and disciple of St. Augustine. Did you know that he was also interested in table manners and how to teach them to children? Not just any child, but the young Prince Henry of Burgundy. In 1530, he dedicated his “On Civility in Children” treatise to him. Surprising that such an erudite could be interested in daily life and body language... Logical, because according to him, good manners shape the human being, helping to avoid conflicts and promote social harmony in a rapidly changing world.
