St. Patrick's day

March 17, 2023 14:00

☘️ On March 17 in Ireland (but not only!), we celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Patrick, under his real name Maewyn Succat, would be born in Scotland around 385. Taken by pirates at the age of 16 and sold as a slave in Ireland, he would have had a divine revelation during his captivity. He then became a missionary in the service of the Pope who entrusted him with the evangelization of Ireland. Legend has it that he held up a shamrock during a sermon to explain the mystery of the Trinity, using a symbol already present in the Celtic religion. St. Patrick's Day has been on the liturgical calendar since 1607 and became a public holiday in 1903. Well loved by Christians who observe Lenten fast, because it is for many of them, the opportunity to break it for a day! What do we eat then during the Feast of Saint Patrick, a day that brings together the whole Irish diaspora? Traditional dishes such as Stobhach Gaelach [Irish stew] or Boxty, a traditional potato pancake, all washed down with a good pint! 🍻
