Fragile ?

🐘=🐂 Indeed, there is no denying that porcelain fears shocks as well as sudden temperature variations: handle it therefore with softness and avoid passing your dish or plate from cold to hot and vice versa 🔎 But did you know? Porcelain is also the hardest of all ceramics! Its great hardness (7 on the Mohs scale i.e. equivalent to zirconium) comes from its natural components (50% kaolin, 25% quartz and 25% feldspar) and from a very high temperature firing (1400° C/2,552° F for 24 hours). It is also extremely resistant to the effects of time: it does not get damaged by heat, oxidation, light or even humidity because its enamel makes it perfectly waterproof. This is how Chinese porcelain is often discovered intact at the bottom of the sea after the sinking of merchant ships dating from the 16th century!
