Fernand Léger (1881-1955) is a French artist. A native of Normandy, he always found inspiration in his environment, in nature and in the novelties of his time, transforming the natural elements around him into the forms and figures characteristic of his style. The Musée National Fernand Léger, down the village of Biot in the south of France, was created by Nadia, his wife and an artist herself. The location, then the Mas St André, was chosen by Fernand Léger a few months before his death. A major avant-garde artist of the 20th century, and an influence on the Pop Art movement, he traveled the world of art using primary colors in a wide range of materials. His work is still remarkably contemporary and acknowledged by the tributes paid to him by artists such as Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.
