🪵 Do you know why the iconic Christmas dessert is a log? Originally, the Yule log was a real log that was put in the fireplace. The log was sprinkled with wine, oil or honey by the oldest or youngest of the family and then blessed with boxwood or laurel. With the disappearance of fireplaces, the log was adorned with candles and greenery to take place at the center of the table, sometimes garnished with sweets. Several pastry chefs compete for the paternity of our log. In the second half of the 19th century, the first rolled and coated cakes were created to imitate wood. They became stars of the season and today's pastry chefs still compete of creativity to renew its aspect and flavors every year!
